Alice comes back to her birthplace in Tokyo, after being away for a decade, and prefers to dwell in a traditional Japanese dwelling which comes with a sunken hearth. She rekindles her friendship with her childhood acquaintance Harumi after a prolonged absence, causing a palpable tension between them. Despite this, the hearth provides them with a familiar and comforting atmosphere, evoking past memories of solace.
